Unwind / Alexandria

Unwind Wellness is a spa and wellness center located in the Washington, DC area. Unwind tasked us with designing two new locations, and renovating their existing spaces as part of a comprehensive rebrand. How do you turn a brand identity into architectural space? We started with the new logo — building upon the curvilinear language of the “W” in Unwind to influence openings, built-in furniture, finishes, and detailing. The result is a calming space which is both playful and relaxing.
For Unwind’s Alexandria location we are in the process of renovating a nineteenth century colonial style building. The three story wellness center will start with a reception desk located within a groin vaulted blush volume which welcomes visitors while transitioning between the main entry and waiting to the private lounge and treatment rooms. In keeping with the Unwind brand, the material choices consist of white oak slat walls, fluted panels matching the "W" profile, and a color palette designed using the branding colors.
