Unwind Wellness is a spa and wellness center located in Washington, DC. Unwind tasked us with designing two new locations, and renovating their existing spaces as part of a comprehensive rebrand. How do you turn a brand identity into architectural space? We started with the new logo — building upon the curvilinear language of the “W” to influence openings, built-in furniture, finishes, and detailing. The result is a calming space which is both playful and relaxing.

For Unwind’s Navy Yard location, a small reception area quickly transitions into an adjacent waiting lounge with built-in seating and bar. We created thickened arched thresholds for each of the nine treatment rooms to create a liminal passage between the common corridor and a private, safe space for treatments. Inspired by the new branding, the material choices consist of white oak slat walls, fluted panels matching the "W" profile, and a color palette designed using the branding colors.
